Name: Joey Coonan
Role/Position: Undergraduate Accountant
Studying a Bachelor of Commerce (Accounting & Mathematics)
I’m currently working part-time as an Accountant for FTA, and I’m very much enjoying the challenge of the high standards we set for ourselves collectively here. I divide my time between the Maroochydore and Roma offices, and this gives me an excellent insight into the broad range of businesses which exist on the Sunshine Coast. I’m currently also working toward finishing up my degree at the University of the Sunshine Coast, and I should be done with that by the end of 2019.
I grew up in Roma and enjoyed the years I spent at St John’s Catholic School; I graduated in 2014. In my time there I was lucky enough to go to Confraternity Shield (Queensland Catholic Schoolboy’s Rugby League comp) twice – once at Townsville, and the second time was at the Gold Coast, where I was team captain.
I spent my 2015 gap year in Roma, working for FTA Accountants. Coming in with virtually no experience, I enjoyed my time and learnt a great deal from the team here. The next year, I decided to move to the Sippy Downs to attend USC. These days, I split my time between Roma, the Sunshine Coast, getting more experience here at FTA, as well as the general study and bustle of university life. I’m loving it, being honest – the time I spend with FTA teaches me so much, and the people and clients we meet are great.
I come from a large family, I have an older brother, twin brother and two younger sisters, and we’re all very close.
However, my favourite hobby of all has to be horse racing. I love the Caloundra Turf Club, especially if there is a Friday night race meet, and I always make the trip home for the Roma Cup.
I play Rugby League for the Maroochydore Swans, which I’ve done on and off since 2016, and really enjoy. I’ll also have a go at social sports of any kind; I play plenty of touch and a little bit of golf and cricket too.
